Route
Description: Rt 201 all the way, rolling with occasional steep hills.
A fall-like chill, cloud cover, and misty rain for an hour gave way to sun and clear skies by 2 PM. We must confess we had a great tail wind all day.
The ride today through the Annapolis River valley
provided views of the river, woodlands, small family farms, several local produce stands (probably open more in July and August), orchards, hops, strawberries, corn, winter wheat, cows, sheep, and houses with neatly, mowed lawns. The low-lying clouds across the river gave the scene a painterly quality. Many of the tiny clusters of houses had a community hall--recycled school houses left vacant after consolidation. We stopped briefly to peak into one in Tupperville
where there will be a strawberry supper from 5-7 PM on July 4. Jubilee Park by the river in Bridgetown provided a pleasant picnic bench on which to eat a Mama Sofia's pizza.
Leaving Bridgetown, Bob explored the gravel rail trail and chose to continue on the road. We believe that the rail trail was again guilty for causing, as on Saturday, rear tire flat. While we were disappointed that the beautiful Beavercreek winery and cafe were closed on Monday, one of their benches and the arrival of sunshine eased the repair.
Middleton appears to be a pleasant town, "the heart of the valley". Based on two nights of tasting, Rickard's Red ale has Bob's endorsement. Bonnie Johnson, our B&B host surprised us with a nice pineapple dessert this evening (D&B&B).
