[ Day 20 ] Monday, July 6, Lunenburg to Blandford (12km plus shuttle)

Garden at Century B&B

Origen: The House at the Head of the Harbor
Destination: Century House B&B

Route description:  Van shuttle with Kiwi Kaboodle to East River Beach, then by bicycle "on the 329".  No shoulders, but very light traffic,

Sunny, 78 degrees, gentle breeze off the bay

On Saturday we made arrangements with Greg Inglis who runs the Kiwi Kaboodle Backpackers Hostel and provides logistic support to cycling groups, to shuttle us today from Lunenberg to East River Beach. We saw no reason to ride 50km a second time, wished to avoid a stretch where both highway and rail trail are bad for cycling, and to reinforce our enduring vision for this trip as multi-modal rather than a cycling tour de force.

Greg is affable, professional, and attentive to detail. Good find. After we demonstrated our ability to turn our pretzels back into bicycles, he left us at a picnic table next to a beach. With bicycles ready to continue,
Marney took off her socks and shoes for wading in the warm water and playing with a 5-year-old searching for hermit crabs;  Bob feasted on the bay side panorama.

This is the quiet side of the bay. If we had an image of coastal Nova Scotia, this is it. Views out the entry door and our bedroom window at Century B&B might convey our image fulfilled. Meike and David Martin's gardens are beautiful, and Meike creates stunning pottery in her studio on site.
We just had a glass of wine and wide-ranging conversation with hosts David and Mieke Martin in the comfortable living room downstairs. We had returned from The Deck where we ate dinner (and lunch). In this sleepy cluster of seaside homes and one B&B, The Deck is its focal point. It is restaurant, post office, lottery ticket vendor, convenience store, ice cream shop, video store, and place to gather with neighbors and strangers. This evening, across tables at The Deck, we found a welcome to Guelph, Ontario if we can happen through on our way home.
