Destination:
Coverdale B&B
Route
Description: By van-- The 1 (Transcanada Hwy) to the Confederation Bridge to Moncton, NB to Riverview
Weather: Sunny and warm
Hard to end such a wonderful family week today--so many memories created during our first 3-family-1-clan---3-generation bicycle tour.
Karlyn and family flew from Charlottetown to Toronto to Denver. With Kristin's family (bikes folded and panniers loaded in the van), we drove west on PEI to the Confederation Bridge and crossed into New Brunswick.
This amazing engineering structure spans the Northumberland Strait for 8 miles, took 4 years to build, and opened on May 31, 1997. It is reported to be the longest bridge over frozen waters. It ended the ferry service at this spot which had been the only link between the provinces for years.
After we lunched together, Kristin and Benny dropped us off at our B&B in Riverview, near Moncton and headed for the Bay of Fundy, en route to Maine, Boston and home to Brussels on the weekend.
We learned from John and Jan, our hosts that today is New Brunswick Day,
a holiday. Stores and most restaurants are closed. John kindly drove us to a restaurant that was open for dinner and we took a taxi back to our lodging.
. . .
We head out tomorrow to complete in 5 days our Maritimes tour.
